Given 2012-10-30
We really get a feel for the atmosphere and mood here, as well as the reality of the situation itself. The spontaneity of the whole family captured in *RebekaPhotography's Newborn2 is simply awesome, the timing brilliant in reflecting that. ( Featured by 3wyl )

Great photo! I love the emotion shown in this! Due to my exposure to darker themes in literature and artwork (I rather enjoy certain darker themes), my first impression was that this had to do with the uncaring some people have in the fact that the mother isn't paying any attention to the newborn and is instead paying attention to the older child. But it didn't take me long, thankfully, to realize that was certainly NOT the case. After all, the newborn is asleep. Wouldn't want to wake it! Curse my mind for having dark thoughts. XD This is adorable, and I love it for that!

That child is awfully close to the edge of the bed. I suppose it works for the shot, but that's a little risky, don't you think?

Also, is it me or does the baby's have a "WTF is going on" look?

i really love how you can see the rings on the couples fingers. its like a big statement that they had a family in marriage rather then out side one.

I'm pretty sure it is you being naive, what difference does a ring on your finger make?
Spending lots of money on a big fancy wedding doesn't guarantee you better chance of staying together. Married couples are just as likely to break up as non-married.
It makes no difference and I honestly don't understand your logic.

a better commitment. thats the difference.
and a wedding doesnt always mean lots of money and stupid parties and shit- its the process in which you take a leap forward.

it make a hell of a difference.

But really, it makes no difference to how likely they are to stay together.
How does a wedding GUARANTEE they will stay together longer?
It honestly doesn't. You can spend the rest of your life with someone and not marry them.
You can have commitment without rings, vows, or any of that.
So long as you love someone TRULY, you are likely to always love them.
Weddings are nice to express your love but doesn't affect the chances.

Depends on the marriage. For instance, a civic marriage can be obtained with little to no preparation, while, say, a Catholic one requires several months of preparation, counseling, and advising. Catholic couples and Jewish are some of the least likely to go through separation. This is a researched fact... And there is a clear reason for it!

If a wedding is nothing more than an 'expression of love' (as you said), then you're right. It won't improve their chances. It's just a party and it's shallow.

However, if the wedding represents the culmination a deep, profound, and honest self-examination, as well as a promise to expand that knowledge into loyalty, fidelity, and support, and to remain together no matter what obstacles may present themselves... then you having something beyond a promise made of words, but one of action and meaning. Active religions understand this, and it's reflected in the statics concerning their likelihood of separation.

I'm not saying that only Catholics or Jews can have long lasting relationships, but I am saying that the way in which they drive home the intrinsic moral, ethical, and logical value of marriage isn't just part of religious fanaticism: it makes sense. It works.

I realize that this photograph totally wasn't meant to spark this discussion... so, uh, I won't be offended if it gets flagged as spam or something XD I just wanted to chime in a bit ;)

well, I think there should be space for such discussions on deviantart too - one of the best things art can do is initiating discussions and questions about the way we live our lifes, our self-understandings. it adds to the relevance of this interesting picture - what we ask is also, how the picture should be interpreted (for example, is the happiness one could feel in this picture somehow related to the rings they are wearing or not?). it shows that the picture stirred some deep concerns and feelings in us :)

Besides (and I am not trolling, just interested in your point ;)), don't you think that the decision to live togehter and to stay with a person also includes deep, profound, and honest self-examination? at least that is the experience I made.

look i didnt means to start a lame argument with you about the logistics of marriage. i only simply want to comment about them choosing to be married and have a nice family.

it does make a difference.a huge difference.

1: it shows a true commitment.
2: it shows character
3: less opportunity to cheat/ or feel of being cheeted on
4: more happy relationships
5: respected
6: honour
7: more privlages

its traditional to get married and wear a simple ring. this new bs about not getting married and having a family is moraly wrong. but because of todays shows and new ideas, that idea of traditional moral value has simply been erased.

yes you can love some one without a ring or a paper but you will never be more then bf/gf- and that dumb stuff, then there is no border to stop that person from cheating or just up and leaving. there is lack of rights allowed to that couple.
A man and woman who are legally married to one another and are thereby given by law specific rights and duties resulting from that relationship. you can't have those rights outside a marrage.

man and wife/ husband and wife- thats the difference between a ring and no ring.

thats my point. please leave it alone. im done arguing with you.

less opportunitiy for cheating - shows character - more happy - honour - and most of all: morally superior.

I have a simple question: WHY should that be? (Just because "its tradition"?)

Besides, we have this word "Lebensgefährte" in German, which means "life-companion" - you can be that without marriage, if you think to say "that is my friend" is too odd.

I know a lot of married couples, that weren't too happy, both men and women married and not being loyal, girls getting married at the age of 18, after knowing her boyfriend for one year (what does it have to do with character or honour, or a step forward?), also luckily married couples - but most of all (and including my parents) people who decided to stay togehter, live together happily for years, without marriage. What should marriage change?

I'm sorry, I understood that you are not willing to argue on that point any longer, but you have to take into account to get a lot of feedback, when you unreflectively write something like "its morally wrong" and then "I dont want to talk with you anymore" ;)

"lame argument"? This is just a discussion.
Obviously you are not willing to listen to others.
Maybe you'll be less narrow minded one day.
Not everyone has to get married to have a stable relationship.
